Tokyo Gendai 2026 to Open in September, with Four Partner Galleries from PHOTOFAIRS Shanghai

The fourth edition of Tokyo Gendai will take place from 11–13 September 2026 at PACIFICO Yokohama, with the VIP Preview and Vernissage on 10 September. As a partner, PHOTOFAIRS Shanghai invites you to discover this international art fair, bringing together contemporary art from Japan and around the world.

Bringing together over 70 premier international galleries—such as Pace, Sadie Coles HQ, Taka Ishii, TARO NASU, and Gana Art—the fair features five key sectors. Alongside the flagship Galleries, Hana “Flower”, and Eda “Branch”, 2026 introduces Miki “Trunk” (focused on photography, drawing, and prints on paper) and welcomes back Tane “Seed” (dedicated to digital media).

PHOTOFAIRS Shanghai will be represented by four partner galleries at this year’s fair, presenting works by artists from across Asia and further connecting photography and contemporary art within the region.

SIGMA FOUNDATION, founded by SIGMA Global CEO Kazuto Yamagami, presents its inaugural project at this year’s fair: Sølve Sundsbø’s AI‑generated fictional flower atlas HANATABA; Julia Hetta’s SONGEN, created during a residency in Aizu, Japan, where she uses natural light to capture a narrative of returning home; and young artist Théo Delors, participating in Bernard Faucon’s project The Most Beautiful Day of My Youth, who responds to the theme “the most beautiful day of one’s life” using mobile phones and social media as his material. Through a spatial exhibition design, the booth transforms photobooks into a “readable” viewing experience.
