Lurking Trivia
The world is in disorder. People lost confidence in the pandemic, lost manners in the war. Individuals are drowned in reality and virtuality. I have to refocus on life, repair perception and the alienated intelligence. I look through those neglected matters and object with a perceptive gaze – do not exhaust in a divided world without truth.
About the Artist
Zhou Qiang
Zhou Qiang was born in Zigong, China, and is currently based in Chengdu. Zhou has been awarded the 7th Hou Dengke Documentary Photography Award in 2019, the 12th Three Shadows Photography Award in 2020, and was nominated for the prize at Magnum Foundation in 2018 and 2019. Zhou’s previous solo exhibitions include “Surviving” at Yaner Bay Contemporary Art Museum in 2019 and “Surviving” at Dali International Photo Exhibition in 2019. Previous group exhibitions include “Resonance” 2020 Three Shadows Photography Award Exhibition in Beijing and Xiamen; “A Tribute to Robert Frank” 2020 Jimei X Arles International Photo Festival in Beijing and Xiamen; “Latitudini Quotidiane” 2020 Photo Open Up Festival International di Fotografia at Musei Civivi Eremitani, Padova; “Time Particle” 2020 Hou Dengke Documentary Photography Award Exhibition at Yuezhong Museum of Historical Images in Shenzhen; “Parallel, Clues” at Red Art Museum in Chengdu, 2020; “Documenting China” at ChinaFile Photo Gallery in Brooklyn, 2017. Zhou’s works have been exhibited in art fairs such as Art Basel in Hongkong, Beijing Contemporary Art Expo, and PHOTOFAIRS Shanghai, and were collected by museums and public institutions including Musei Civivi Eremitani Padova, Three Shadows Photography Art Center, Xie Zilong Photography Museum, Heilongjiang Art Museum, and View Art Gallery. In his photographic practice, Zhou ceaselessly investigates the interrelationships between the individual subject and its surrounding “context”, aiming to visualise the internal experiences and contemplations that happen within an individual.
About the Gallery
View Contemporary Art Center (Lanzhou)
View Contemporary Art Center started in 2014 to devote itself in the collection of artistic photographic works as well as the communication and promotion of local artistic photographic works in Northwest China. Officially founded in Oct. 2017, the Art Center focused on the collection, sales, communication and exhibition planning of contemporary artistic photographic works. Meanwhile it has organized a few projects including artist in residence projects, Support Project of Young Artists from Gansu and other public art projects.
