COnVERSATIONS

The newly established PERFORMANCE section focuses on performance art works that use photography or moving images as a recording medium, exploring the narrative possibilities that emerge from the interplay between live action and image. Star Gallery presents Wang Peng’s 1993 performance works The Wall and 84’Performance, the latter created in 1984 and recognized as one of the earliest documented performance artworks in China. This work was completed privately and was only publicly revealed in 2006, subsequently entering the discourse of Chinese art history. Art On Space presents Cang Xin’s classic series Identity Swap and Communication Series. Cang Xin, a key figure in Beijing’s East Village in the 1990s, is known for his persistent interrogation of social identity and psychological boundaries, and the gallery brings visual documentation of these signature performance works. None Project C14 Gallery presents Mo Yi’s photographic practice, a representative of China’s 1980s avant-garde experimental photography, whose street images preserve the collective memory of an era through a highly subjective visual language. A Thousand Plateaus Art Space presents Mongolian artist Xin Tana, born in 1983 in Xilin Gol, Inner Mongolia, who combines painting, photography, performance, and installation to navigate the tension between urban and pastoral life, generating multidimensional relations grounded in natural principles. Singaporean photographer Sim Chi Yin participates independently with a dual-channel video installation The Hidden Mountain, tracing family histories and building multi-layered dialogues between archival materials and personal narratives.
